The Grove specifications and guidelines for pruning are written according to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A300 Standards. Tree pruning follows the International Society of Arboriculture Best Management Practices for Tree Pruning.

Tree Hazard Evaluation/ Risk Assessment

Trees in an urban environment often face more complex and stressful environments than they encounter in their natural settings. These challenges can contribute to a tree’s decline and/or overall failure if proactive steps are not taken.

The Grove’s certified arborists will use a systematic approach to rating your tree for failure potential.

We will rate your tree’s risk by assessing the following:

  • Tree characteristics
  • Tree health
  • Site conditions
  • Target (person, structure or object)
  • Tree defects

Tree Removals

Although removal of trees is something we like to avoid, sometimes it becomes necessary to remove a tree. Reasons to remove a tree may include:

  • Dead or dying trees
  • Hazardous situations
  • Overcrowding
  • Homeowner’s decision
  • Clearance for new construction

At The Grove, our arborists are trained in the art and science of tree removal. We will work with you to perform a tree risk assessment and provide suggestions regarding the best course of action for your tree, safety and property.

Mature Tree Care, Pruning and Recommendations

Mature trees have different requirements for health, sustainability and nutrition. The industry standard to never remove more than 25% of the tree’s canopy may not hold true for larger, mature trees. Mature trees are less tolerant of pruning than younger trees, which can recover faster from pruning wounds. An arborist from The Grove will consider several factors when pruning your mature trees including:

  • Health of the tree
  • Site conditions (wind and sun exposure)
  • Species
  • Time of year

We will take the utmost care to ensure your mature trees are properly cared for to give you maximum longevity, sustainability and vitality.

Stump Grinding

The Grove uses top of the line equipment when grinding stumps to ensure efficiency and to safeguard your property. In fact, unlike many companies in the tree service industry, The Grove will be happy to remove all of the grindings from our customer’s property following the grinding process.

Plant Health Care

At The Grove, we take a holistic approach to the management of trees by focusing on the living and nonliving elements of your landscape. The monitoring and examination of trees in their growing conditions is the key to success in our Plant Health Care (PHC) programs.

The Grove’s Plant Health Care Program includes:

  • Deep Root Feeding

Trees in urban landscapes may be growing in areas that lack sufficient amounts of essential elements needed for optimal growth and development. Fertilizing can reduce susceptibility to disease and pests and often turn around the declining health and vigor of a tree.

Deep root feeding involves a soil injection of a slow release liquid fertilizer and organic root stimulant solution. This injection directly into the root zone provides trees and shrubs with beneficial nutrients. The Grove recommends that treatments are performed 1-2 times per year for trees five years or younger and as needed for mature trees.

  • Disease and Insect Control

The Grove’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) utilizes a variety of methods to control pests. IPM was developed in response to the reliance upon chemical treatment and concern about the economic, social and ecological implications of these treatments.

The Grove’s IPM goals are to:

  • Avoid and reduce harming effects on your surrounding environments (beneficial insects, people, plants and pets)
  • Avoid site disturbance
  • Promote plant health
  • Prevent and suppress pest infestations
  • Work with each client to achieve their pest management goals

Emergency Services

You can count on The Grove’s team of specialists to be on hand to perform emergency tree care services when the need arises.

Planting and Placement estimates

The Grove understands that your trees are an investment in your property and your future. Matching a suitable tree with the proper site is extremely important and can help determine the long term, overall performance of the tree. Often trees are not carefully selected for the long term and become more of a liability and a hazard.

We are happy to work with you to select a tree that can meet your needs. We’ll make recommendations for trees that are suited for your property and can provide you with the shade, flowers, fall color, privacy or overall size that you’re looking for.
